Auxiliary Communications Service / Amateur Radio Emergency Service

Snohomish County ACS/ARES provides communications services to Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management and member agencies through the Auxiliary Communications Service (ACS) function as well as county hospitals and the Snohomish County Regional Chapter of the American Red Cross via the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) function. These have been two separate teams in the past and have been combined into one larger team trained to handle all the served agencies. This allows more opportunities for members to serve in a larger number of roles. It also creates a single point of contact for these agencies to receive communications support.

During the COVID-19 Pandemic,
the Tuesday check-ins through the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for Radio Communications are being held remotely keeping to the "self-quarantine" status this country is going through. Below is a link to the Script for the Net Control position for OPS-3. You are welcome to use it. Net Control comprises of OPS 3 check-ins at 09:00 which is held on 145.65 frequency and you will take that total number and radio in to OPS-2 at 09:30 local time on the 146.92 frequency.

Sultan EOC is located on the south side of Hwy 2 (in Sultan) in a temporary building on the property. If you are interested in becoming part of the group please check out the links provided on this page.

Snohomish County ACS/ARES provides communications services to Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management and member agencies through the Auxiliary Communications Service (ACS) function as well as county hospitals and the Snohomish County Regional Chapter of the American Red Cross via the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) function.

Other tasks that ACS/ARES personnel are involved with may not involve amateur radio communications. For example, communicators may become involved in public safety or other government communications, Emergency Operations Center (EOC) staffing, and emergency equipment repair.

Snohomish County ACS/ARES holds on air nets every Tuesday at 20:00 local time on the Granite Falls 146.920- (tone 123.0) repeater. The team also meets at the Snohomish County DEM offices at 720 80th St SW, Everett, WA 98203 the third Thursday of the month at 19:00. Anyone is welcome on the net or at the meetings.

Training through FEMA
The main link to FEMA for independent study that many volunteer agencies use when responding to emergency issues. This link is the gateway to sign up for a student ID number and has a link to courses offered.
The following courses are required to become a member of ACS.

IS-100c, Introduction to Incident Command System

IS-200.b, ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents (recommended but not required)

IS-700, National Incident Management System, An Introduction
